The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) is progressing amendments to the Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Regulations 2008 (WARR Regulations) to require recordkeeping and reporting of waste and recycling data by local governments, waste recyclers and some large regional landfill premises.

Under the proposed amended regulations, liable entities will be required to keep records and submit reports to Department’s Chief Executive Officer using an approved method.

The Department has developed three approved methods for each type of liable entity. The methods will support liable entities in fulfilling their recordkeeping and reporting obligations.

Liable entities will be required to report waste and recycling data using the appropriate approved method for the 2019-20 financial year in the second half of 2020, following the gazettal of the amended WARR Regulations and release of the final approved methods in July 2019.

DWER is seeking feedback on the methods set out in the following consultation papers.
