Programs
Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) programs include:
Authorised Officer Program
The Authorised Officer Program involves the appointment of Authorised Officers under the following legislation:
- Environmental Protection Act 1986;
- Litter Act 1979;
- Contaminated Sites Act 2003; and
- Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2007.
Light Industry Program
The Light Industry Program is a joint initiative by DWER and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions aimed at reducing contaminants from light industrial activities, entering the Swan and Canning Rivers.
BurnWise
DWER’s BurnWise program promotes the efficient operation of domestic wood heaters to minimise smoke emissions (or particle pollution). The program has been designed to support local governments to manage domestic wood smoke in their areas.
Murujuga Rock Art
Murujuga, located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, is home to one of the largest, densest and most diverse collections of rock art (petroglyphs) in the world.
The Murujuga Rock Art Strategy builds on the previous work on Murujuga to deliver a scientifically rigorous approach to monitoring, analysis and management that will provide an appropriate level of protection to the rock art.
CleanRun
CleanRun is a DWER program aimed at improving air quality in Western Australia by reducing vehicle emissions and is implemented through three components:
-
- CleanRun EcoDrive – a behaviour change program for fleet managers and professional drivers.
- Roadside monitoring of vehicle emissions using the CleanRun remote sensing device (RSD)
- Smoky Vehicle Reporting Program provides a mechanism for community members to report polluting vehicles. To reduce the pollution from your vehicle and offset increases in fuel price, see EcoDriving – driving down emissions.
Fertiliser Partnership
The Fertiliser Partnership establishes a cooperative partnership between the Western Australian Government, the fertiliser industry, users groups and the community to reduce nutrient loss into aquatic ecosystems from fertilisers.
Low Emissions Energy Development (LEED) Fund projects
The LEED Fund supports innovative technology projects at the commercial demonstration, commercialisation and local adaptation stages in Western Australia. The Fund is administered by DWER. Decisions on funded projects are made jointly by the Ministers for Environment and Energy.
National Pollutant Inventory
The National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) is a publicly accessible internet database (www.npi.gov.au) designed to provide community, industry and government with information on the emissions of 93 selected substances from industry, transport, household activities and commercial premises to air land and water in Australia.
WA Container Deposit Scheme
The Western Australian Government is introducing a statewide container deposit scheme. Western Australia’s container deposit scheme is expected to start in 2020.
Perth Air Emissions Study
The goal of the Perth Air Emissions Study 2011–12 was to quantify the most significant emission sources in Perth.
