Electric vehicles

The Western Australian Electric Vehicles Working Group was formed in 2018 following the signing of a sub-national Climate Action Roundtable memorandum of understanding on electric vehicles by the Western Australian Minister for Water; Innovation and ICT; Science, the Hon. Dave Kelly MLA.

The Memorandum of Understanding on electric vehicles was also signed by South Australia, the Australian Capital Territory, City of Adelaide, City of Hobart and Electric Vehicle Council of Australia.

The signatories of the memorandum of understanding have agreed to identify opportunities to collaborate in promoting and accelerating the transition to electric vehicles in Australia.


The working group has been established to coordinate and facilitate state government action to deliver outcomes under the Climate Action Roundtable memorandum of understanding focusing on three work streams.

Work streams

  • Taking a coordinated approach to the strategic planning and construction of infrastructure for electric vehicles (project co-lead – Main Roads Western Australia and Western Power).
  • Sharing information and seeking alignment of policies to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles including standards and financial and non-financial incentives (project lead – Department of Transport).
  • Developing an action plan to increase the share of electric vehicles in fleets (project lead – Department of Finance, State Fleet).
