Western Australia’s plastic bag ban applies to lightweight bags made of plastic with handles and a thickness of 35 microns or less. It includes bags that are biodegradable, degradable or compostable.
As of 1 January 2019 it is an offence with fines of up to $5000 to supply a lightweight plastic bag to customers.
The National Retail Association has been contracted by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation to be a point of contact for the public.
You can report suspected banned bags by completing the online form on the National Retail Association’s website: www.bagbanwa.com.au or by phone on 1800 817 723.
